White Glittering Sands

On a seaside of white glittering sands
an old woman by the water’s edge stands.
She is looking out into the ocean deep
you can hear her humming as she does weep.
Her song is gentle and sweet like those old lullabies
it’s melody is echoed even in the seagulls lilting cries.

On a seaside of white glittering sands
a fisherman untangles the seaweed strands.
He is weathered and rough from his days in the sun
eking out a livelihood while others are out having fun.
His expression is veiled but his manners express so much regret
does he wish for more from this life than that which he did get?

On a seaside of white glittering sands
a young couple, just married, wearing shiny gold bands.
She looks at him with all the love and adoration she feels
He looks at her and ever so gently from her a kiss he steals.
They look so happy and full of promise for tomorrows yet unknown
on a journey together they will travel until old they both have grown.

On a seaside of white glittering sands
a little boy holds a tiny crab in his chubby hands.
He is fascinated by this little creature that from the ocean came
he releases it and catches it once again for this is his game.
Until the crab pinches his little thumb and he tosses it aside
he watches the little creature as it scurries off carried by the tide.

On a seaside of white glittering sands
we see life’s miracles - the gifts from God’s own two hands.
Sweetly sorrowful, sadly regretful, happily hopeful and lessons taught
each one of us like a fish in the ocean that in a fisherman’s net has been caught.
Swimming in an ocean free one instant and the next served as dinner on someone’s plate
guided by our own free will or are we destined to follow the path woven by Fate?
