Στην πλατεία μιας επαρχίας το πλήθος κοίταγε ενθουσιασμένο
ένα γορίλα που κάτι τσιγγάνοι τον είχαν φέρει φυλακισμένο
δίχως αισχύνη και σεβασμό οι γεροντοκόρες του χωριού
παίζαν αναίσθητα με το ζωο δε λέω πώς δε λέω πού
Προσοχή στο γορίλα
Ξαφνικά το μεγάλο κλουβί που έγκλειστη ζούσε η κακόμοιρη φύση
απότομα ανοίγει δεν ξέρω γιατί ίσως να το `χαν άσχημα κλείσει
το τέρας βγαίνοντας έξω από εκεί σκέφτηκε σήμερα θα τ’ αναλάβω
μιλούσε για την παρθενιά του που χρόνια τώρα τον είχε σκλάβο
Προσοχή στο γορίλα
Ο αφέντης ούρλιαξε προσοχή του γορίλα του `χει σαλέψει
δεν έχει δει ποτέ του μαϊμού γι’ αυτό μπορεί να τα μπερδέψει
απ’ τους παρόντες τότε ο καθείς σπεύδει τα νότα του να προφυλάξει
οι γεροντοκόρες απέδειξαν πως άλλο οι ιδέες και άλλο η πράξη
Ο όχλος ομοθυμαδόν ξεχύνεται έντρομος στο δρόμο
μα ένας ψύχραιμος δικαστής και μια γιαγιά δεν είχαν λόγο
και αφού οι υπόλοιποι την είχανε κάνει το θηρίο πάτησε γκάζι
τη γριούλα και το δικαστή με τέσσερις πήδους τους αρπάζει

Αχ αναστέναξε η γιαγιά να πάρει εμένα είναι απίθανο μάλλον
θα `ταν τελείως παράξενο και δε θα το ευχόμουν εκτός των άλλων
να με μπερδέψει με μια μαϊμού είπε ο δικαστής ενοχλημένος
είναι αδύνατο εντελώς στο τέλος βγήκε γελασμένος
Απαξιώντας λοιπόν τη γιαγιά το δικαστή σφίγγει με πάθος
και προς τους θάμνους τον τραβά ενώ αυτός του φώναζε κάνεις λάθος
τι ακριβώς συνέβη εκεί πίσω αδυνατώ να αναφέρω εκτενώς
μα με είχε το θέαμα συνεπάρει τι σφρίγος τι ένταση τι ρυθμός
Προσοχή στο γορίλα
Θα πω μονάχα πως το κορύφωμα που `χε το αλλόκοτο τούτο δράμα
στρίγγλιζε κλαίγοντας ο δικαστής στα διαλείμματα φώναζε μάνα
φώναζε μάνα σαν το φουκαρά που χθες καταδίκασε για ληστεία
και για κοινό παραδειγματισμό τον αποκεφάλισε στην πλατεία

At the village square the crowd looked excited
at a gorilla that some gypsies had brought in a cage
with no shame and no respect the village's old maids
toyed insensitively with the animal - I will not say how or where
Beware of the gorilla
All of a sudden, the big cage in which the poor soul lived confined
opened abruptly,don't ask me why, perhaps it hadn't been locked well
the beast, on getting out of there, thought "Today I'll deal with it"
it was referring to its virginity, which had kept it a slave for years
Beware of the gorilla
Its master cried "Look out! This gorilla is off its rocker
he's never seen a monkey before, so he may get things mixed up"
All present then rushed to cover their behind
And the old maids proved that thoughts and actions differ
The crowd as one flowed terrified to the street
but a cool-blooded judge and a grandma saw no reason
and since the rest had vamoosed the beast stepped on it
and with four bounds grabbed the judge and the little old lady
Beware of the gorilla
"Oh dear," sighed the grandmother, "it's rather improbable that he'll take me,
it would be really odd and besides, I wouldn't wish for it to happen"
"To think that he would confuse me with a monkey!" said the judge annoyed,
"It's completely impossible!" but he was proved him wrong
So, ignoring the grandma, the gorilla passionately embraced the judge
and pulled him towards the bushes while he shouted at him "You're wrong!"
what exactly happened back there I cannot report in detail
but the sight had me spellbound - what vigour! what intensity! what tempo!
Beware of the gorilla
I will only speak about the climax this odd drama had
the judge shrieked, crying, at intervals he called for his mother
For his mother he called, like the poor fellow he had condemned for theft the previous day
and had beheaded at the square to make an example of him
Beware of the gorilla!
