| | | | The song was written by Markos Vamvakaris after the Restoration of the Greek Monarchy in the 1930s following a (highly disputed) referendum. Vamvakaris blamed Eleftherios Venizelos, the King's prime political rival, for the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the ills of the Second Hellenic Republic that emerged therefrom.
