| | | | * Translator's note: this "γοργόνα" ("gorgóna") has nothing to do with the "Gorgons" of classical mythology, who were frightful sea-monsters (Medusa is the best-known of them). This one here is a siren, the fairy-tale kind, half woman half fish. In Greek popular tradition, Alexander the Great had a sister who was a siren.
