Αγκαλιά και πλάι πλάι
κοιμηθήκαμε στην άμμο,
κι ονειρεύτηκα βραδιά του Μάη
πως παρέα ήμασταν στη Σάμο.
Εγώ αγεράκι στο νησί
και στο βουνό το κύμα,
ούτε δικός μου είσ’ εσύ,
σ’ αγαπώ και είναι κρίμα.
Μ’ ένα θαλασσί φουστάνι
γι’ αρραβώνα και για γάμο,
σφύριζαν καράβια στο λιμάνι
και σαντούρια παίζανε στη Σάμο.
Hugged and side by side,
we slept on the beach sand,
and on a May evening, I dreamt
that we would be together on Samos island.
I would be a fresh breeze on the island,
and the waves would reach the mountains;
but unfortunately neither this is true nor you are mine!
Thats why its a pity that I love you!
would wear a light blue skirt,
being ready for both, engagement and marriage!
The boats would be whistling at the Samos port,
as the islanders would play the santoor.
