Spring has yet to arrive
Ακόμα τούτ’ η άνοιξη
το δάκρυ δε στεγνώνει
δάκρυ στα μάτια ποταμός
κυλάν ποτάμια οι χρόνοι.
Δεν είναι τούτη άνοιξη
δεν είναι καλοκαίρι
μόν’ είναι σύννεφο βαρύ
χειμώνας το ’χει φέρει.
Αν είναι να θερίσουμε
να μπούμε για τ’ αλώνι
τι μου φωνάζ’ ο κύρης μου
κι’ η μάννα με μαλώνει.
Χειμώνας και κρατάει πολύ
κι’ η νύχτα όλο μακραίνει
τσακάλι πέφτει στο μαντρί
και τρώει και δε χορταίνει.
Spring has yet to arrive
tears keep flowing like rivers
from the eyes
as the years keep rolling on by.
This is not Spring
nor Summer
it’s just a heavy cloud
that Winter has brought with it.
If we are to reap the harvest
we need to enter the threshing floor
what’s my father calling out to me
and my mother scolds me.
Winter is lingering on
and the nights get longer
α jackal’s in the corral
who’s hunger will never be satisfied.
