Είχα ακούσει ενός μπεκρή την ιστορία σ’ ένα λιμάνι, σε μια χώρα μακρινή όμως την ξέχασα στην πρώτη ευκαιρία γιατί δεν πίστεψα πως είναι αληθινή Μου είχε πει γιατί οι άντρες κλαίνε γιατί μεθάνε κάθε βράδυ μοναχοί γιατί με θάνατο τα σωθικά τους καίνε γιατί τα δάκρυα κυλάνε σαν βροχή Πόσο μεγάλη ήταν για μένα η τιμωρία όταν αγάπησα και εγώ κάποια μικρή τότε θυμήθηκα αυτή την ιστορία τότε κατάλαβα τα λόγια του μπεκρή Μου είχε πει γιατί οι άντρες κλαίνε γιατί μεθάνε κάθε βράδυ μοναχοί γιατί με θάνατο τα σωθικά τους καίνε γιατί τα δάκρυα κυλάνε σαν βροχή		I heard the story of a drunk in a harbor, in a faraway country however I forgot it at the first opportunity because I didn’t believe it was true He had told me why men cry why they get drunk alone every night why they burn their innards with death why their tears flow like rain How great for me was the punishment when I too loved a young girl then I remembered this story then I understood the words of the drunk He had told me why men cry why they get drunk alone every night why they burn their innards with death why their tears flow like rain
