Δίψα τους έκαιγε τα χείλη

μπροστά πηγαίνει ο Ιρλανδός πίσω πηγαίνει ο Ιουδαίος
Πέρασαν τα μεγάλα τείχη
και κάπου εκεί στην αγορά
κάποιον ρωτήσανε στην τύχη
πού είναι ο γάμος κι η χαρά
τον ρώτησε ο Ιρλανδός τον ρώτησε κι ο Ιουδαίος
Κι αυτός απλώνοντας τα χέρια
τους έδειξε στο χώμα εμπρός
δυο πεθαμένα περιστέρια
που ήταν η νύφη κι ο γαμπρός
Δάκρυσε τότε ο Ιρλανδός δάκρυσε και ο Ιουδαίος

The Irishman asked him, and the Jew asked him.
And he, spreading his arms,
Pointed in front of them on the dirt
Two dead doves,
Who were the bride and groom.
Then the Irishman shed a tear, and the Jew shed a tear.
