From the birth of Father Time,
it's been here, vital, green, proud.
Apollo shines in his white chariot,
Aeolus blows his firm breaths
and still, it humbly rises
in the cracks of the sidewalk,
undamaged by Chronus.

We, the attempted slayers,
use it, abuse it, ignore its existence,
as playful gods love to tease
us... it... separately... apart.
We bury it with concrete
(poor excuses hide our guilt)
but it forgives us and grows
in the cracks of the sidewalk.
