Ο Διγενής ψυχομαχεί
κι η γης τόνε τρομάζει
κι η πλάκα τον ανατριχιά
πως θα τόνε σκεπάσει
γιατί από `κειά που κοίτεται
λόγια `ντρειωμένου λέει:
Νάχεν η γης πατήματα
κι ο ουρανός κερκέλια
να πάτουν τα πατήματα
να `πιανα τα κερκέλια
ν’ ανέβαινα στον ουρανό,
να διπλωθώ να κάτσω
να δώσω σείσμα τ’ ουρανού.
For life is struggling Digenes
and earth strikes him with terror
with horror awes him the tomb slab
how hell be covered over
because from where he stands upon
brave mans words he utters
If only there were steps on earth
and rings to hold from heavens
to step on top of those steps
to grasp the rings of heavens
to ascend the route to heaven
to kneel and lay down
notice to give to heaven
