κι ο Μπουγιούκ ντερές ακόμη
Σμύρνη φτωχομάνα Σμήρνη
που `ναι η ομορφιά σου εκείνη!
Like the fire of Smyrna
there hasn't been another in the world
it burned and turned to ashes
and Kemal was relieved of his grudge
A school burned down too
which was a girls' school
A teacher burned too
who was white as milk
Stavrodromi burned down
and even Buyukdere burned
Smyrna, or poor mother Smyrna,
where is that beauty of yours!
