Life in the tomb
Η ζωή εν τάφω κατετέθης,
Χριστέ,
και Αγγέλων στρατιαί εξεπλήττοντο,
συγκατάβασιν δοξάζουσαι την σην.
Μεγαλύνομέν σε, Ιησού Βασιλεύ,
και τιμώμεν την ταφήν και τα πάθη σου,
δι ών έσωσας ημάς εκ της φθοράς.
Η ζωή πώς θνήσκεις;
πώς και τάφω οικείς;
του θανάτου το βασίλειον λύεις δε
και το Άδου τους νεκρούς εξανιστάς.
As life in the grave you reposed
Christ,
and the armies of the Angels were taken aback,
glorifying your acceptance.
We magnify thee, Christ King,
and honour your entombment and passion,
through which you saved us from doom.
O life, how do you die?
And how do you live in the tomb?
You abolish the realm of death
and revive the dead of Hades.
