Η πόλη λεύτερη από φόβο
πλήθαινε τις πύλες της.
Σαράντα πολιτοφυλάκοι
τις διάβηκαν για να κουρσέψουν.
Τα ρολόγια σταματήσαν,
και το κονιάκ μες στις μποτίλιες
μεταμφιέστηκε σε νοέμβρη
για ν’ αποφύγει τις υποψίες.
Ένα πέταγμα μακριές κραυγές
σηκώθηκε προς τους ανεμοδείχτες.
Τα σπαθιά κόβους τις αύρες
που τις ποδοπατούν οι οπλές.
Απ’ τα μουχρά σοκάκια
φεύγουνε οί γριές τσιγγάνες
με τ άλογά τους κοιμισμένα
και τις σακούλες τα λεφτά.
Απ’ τ’ ανηφορικά σοκάκια,
όλο ανεβαίνουνε οι άθλιες κάπες
και πίσω τους αφήνουν φευγαλέους
στροβίλους από ψαλίδια.
