ένα περήφανο καράβι,

Από τη Νάπολη, από τη Μάλτα,
για απ’ το Τριέστι, μήτε ξέρω
μα ήταν αλλόκοτο καράβι,
ξένο και κρύο, σα στοιχειωμένο.
Ώσπου ξημέρωσε μια μέρα,
μια θαμπή μέρα στο λιμάνι,
κι είχαν τα όνειρα σκορπίσει
κι ήταν φευγάτο το καράβι.
Ταξίδι αμίλητο, δεν ξέρω
σε ποια θ’ αράξει πολιτεία,
κι ακόμα δε χωρίζω αν ήταν
ένα καράβι ή μια ιστορία.
