The Storm

I saw you resting by me when dawn broke,
like an angel, breathing softly, peaceful
in your dreams. A ray shot through our window
and landed on your face, exposing your
delicate skin --- it made your brown eyes blink.
Such splendor in my heart... and my lips smiled...

We walked alone, apart. The skies mourned while
you sighed "It's over." I let raindrops sink
to the cold concrete mixed with tears. My sore
lips trembled -- you didn't notice. The glow
of the sun followed you as you went, ful-
filled... free... leaving me in the gloom to soak.
