Τρία ῾πὸ τὰ πολλὰ θεριά, ἁπού ῾βγαλεν ἡ φύση
ἢ πῦρ, γυνή, ἢ θάλασσα θὰ σὲ κατανικήσει.
Εἶδα ῾να ὄφι πύρινο νὰ μὲ περικυκλώνει,
κι ἕνα μπεντένι ὑδάτινο νὰ μοῦ κοντοσιμώνει.
Κι εὐθὺς ἀνασυντάχτηκα νὰ τ᾿ ἀντιμετωπίσω·
θάλασσα πάνω στὴ φωθιὰ προσπάθησα νὰ ῥίξω.
Καὶ σὰν ἀρχαιοέλληνας, φίλος τοῦ Ποσειδῶνα,
ἐδάμασα τὰ κύματα καὶ τα ῾στρεψα στὴ φλόγα.
Κι ἐνῷ φαινόμουν νικητὴς μὲ λάφυρα στὸν ὦμο,
μία γυνὴ ἐπάντηξα, σὰ γύριζα στὸ δρόμο.
Νίκησα θάλασσ᾿ ἀπ᾿ τὴ μιά, φωθιὰ ἀπὸ τὴν ἄλλη,
ὅμως μὲ ἕνα θηλυκὸ ποιὸς πάει νὰ τὰ βάλει;
Κι ἔγινε μάχη ἄνιση καὶ χαλασμὸς Κυρίου,
ἀπόρθητ᾿ ἀποδείχτηκε σὰν κάστρο Βυζαντίου.
Εἶχε τὰ σκῆπτρα τσ᾿ ὀμορφιᾶς καὶ γέμισέ με πάθος,
φωθιοθαλασσονικητὴς ἔχασα κατὰ κράτος.

Three of the many monsters that nature pulled
the fire, the woman and the sea will conquer you.
I saw a fiery serpent encircling me
and an aquatic bastion coming up to me.
And immediately I regrouped to face it
sea on fire I tried to throw.
And like an ancient Greek friend of Poseidon
I tamed the waves and turned them upon the flame.
And while I seemed the winner, the spoils on my shoulder,
one woman I met as I was returning on the road.
Defeated the sea from one side, the fire from the other,
but against a female who goes to war.
And the battle became uneven and destruction as of the Lord
she proved impregnable like a Byzantine castle.
She had the scepter of beauty and was filled with passion
fire-sea vanquisher, I lost by state.
