Είν’ η ώρα που περνά
το τραίνο των 9:10
σ’ ένα βαγόνι μια γυναίκα
προς το παράθυρο γυρνάει.
Θαμπό το τζάμι απ’ τα χνώτα
και βιαστικά το καθαρίζει
καθώς η μηχανή σφυρίζει
και χαμηλώνουμε τα φώτα.
Και βλέπει μέσα στο σκοτάδι
ένα σπιτάκι φωτισμένο
και της μορφής της το μαγνάδι.
Το σπίτι τρέχει ή το τραίνο
ή μήπως έτρεχε το βράδυ
προς το δικό της πεπρωμένο.

the 9:10 train passes
in a compartment a woman
turns to the window.
The window is fogged with huffs
and she hastily wipes it
as the engine whistles
and the ligths grow dim.
And she sees into the darkness
a little house lit up
and the ghost of her form.
Does the house race or does the train
or did the evening race
towards her destiny?
